Awaken shepherd

God is destroying the nation of Israel because of their sin. He is going to punish those who should be protecting the people but are asleep.

‘Your shepherds are asleep, O king of Assyria; your nobles slumber. Your people are scattered on the mountains with none to gather them.’ Nahum 3:18 (ESV)

How amazing it seems that a shepherd would sleep and not take care of the flock; yet how often shepherds of God's people lose their compassion and stop caring. They lose their zeal and stop preaching the truth. It is possible for us to sleep and not care, and not even be aware of the danger of the situation.

My greatest fear as Pastor is that I don't remain faithful to the end! That God's blessing and presence leaves me and I simply don't realise. That I sleep in sin and am so dulled to the leading of the Spirit of God that I simply go through the motions.

My prayer today is for a renewing of my trust in God, the cleansing of my sin and the restoring of my zeal. That means I need God to renew me and Jesus to cleanse me afresh and the Spirit to fill me anew. As I struggle– I need to throw my life on the mercy of God again and again.
